How to check your state

  1. Open your regulator’s rules. Use the directory below to reach the official agency, then find its current regulations or statute.
  2. Search the text for “automated teller,” “ATM,” “cash,” “surveillance” and “limited access area.”
  3. Check local requirements — city or county permits, building rules and your lease.
  4. Confirm with your compliance lead or counsel, and keep a dated note of what you checked.

Where we list an ATM-specific provision below, we read it in the primary source on the date shown. Where we list none, that means we did not find one in our search — not that your state has no relevant rule. Rules change; the regulator’s current text controls.
