Include the ATM in your store planning before the counters and customer route are fixed. The right questions help you avoid equipment that arrives before power, connectivity or the cash-loading arrangement is ready.
Decide who will run the machine
Start with placement versus ownership. Who supplies the equipment? Who funds the cash? Who loads it, watches the balance and handles repairs? Put these responsibilities in writing so the store team has a clear point of contact.
Review the space with the installer
Share a proposed floor plan without security-sensitive details. Ask the installer about the exact equipment dimensions, customer approach, service clearance, power supply and connection requirements. Leave room for people to use the machine without blocking the checkout route.
Ask your compliance lead to check applicable accessibility and premises requirements. Our state rules resource points to regulators; it does not replace a site review or an accessibility assessment.
Confirm processing before committing to equipment
A retail ATM still needs a processing arrangement that accepts the business and supports the equipment. Ask what license and business documents are required, which account will receive settlement and what needs to be approved before installation. See our processing review guide for more questions.
Plan the first cash load
Separate the money used to buy equipment from the money needed inside it. Confirm whose cash is used and who is responsible for the first load. A store that owns a machine still needs an operating plan for replenishment, service and supplies.
Use the cash-cover estimator to explore assumptions, then adjust the plan from actual withdrawal activity after opening. It is arithmetic for planning, not a prediction of customer demand.
Allow for testing and a fallback
Agree what the installer will check before handover: connection, customer instructions, withdrawal operation and the process for reporting a fault. Confirm the expected schedule directly. Do not assume a proposed installation date means every approval is complete.
Give staff the service contact and a simple process for explaining an outage to customers. Keep keys, access codes and cash-handling procedures restricted to the appropriate people.
Prepare your consultation
Bring your license status, location, opening plan, intended equipment arrangement and questions about responsibilities. The printable consultation checklist helps organize those details. If your opening date changes, tell the provider early so the plan can be reviewed.
Next step
Talk through the ATM for your dispensary.
Tell us your state, your license status and what you have today. We’ll walk through placement, ownership or a processing review and confirm what is available for your location.
